A patient, who is 81 and has had two Transient Ischemic Attacks (TIA’s), was subsequently diagnosed with DMI.
Since the TIA attacks, the patient has been taking Plavix.
Should he discontinue his TIA medication now that he has started to have Lucentis injections for the treatment of DMI?
What would be the implications if the two treatments (Plavix and Lucentis) were to be followed concurrently?
If indeed Plavix should be discontinued what can be done to prevent further TIA attacks?
Thank you,

Hello Joao Cabrita,
It is my pleasure to answer your question. In reviewing your question it is evident that there are many variables that are potentially critical with regard to overall health of the patient you refer to. Obviously the Plavix is critical for attempting to prevent additional life threatening TIA's and the Lucentis is critical for attempting to prevent vision loss. The appropriate answer here is that the prescribing physicians must open communication with each other to inform each other as to the current treatments each is providing and continue in communication to regulate or change treatment modalities as needed based upon treatment outcomes.
In no case should the patient stop treatment on their own.
Please write if you need additional information.
